Total Performance was founded in 1971, with you, the street rod consumer in mind. As hot rodders ourselves, we recognized the need for quality, hard-to-find specialty car parts. As a result, our catalog is full of T/P parts that have been designed, engineered, developed and tested for your special needs.
During our first five years in business, we found the direction of Total Performance turning to the construction of finished, "turn-key" cars. At the time, building a street rod from "scratch" and trying to get it titled and registered proved to be a sometimes difficult task! As Total Performance grew, it was necessary to look into certifying ourselves as Licensed Manufacturers of Specialty Automobiles. Since '76, as the only D.O.T. Approved specialty car manufacturer in the state of Connecticut, and quite possibly the only licensed specialty car manufacturer in the street rod kit market, our street rod packages come complete with state issued Manufacturer Statement of Origin to help you title your new Total Performance rod.
In 1988 Total Performance acquired Inglese Induction Systems. Inglese's main product line includes Weber carburetion systems for most Ford and Chevrolet engines. Total Performance has also developed many products that are a universal fit. One of them, Cool-Flex, has been sold and installed by Total for over twenty years.
With over 3000 street rods sold, you can be assured that Total Performance cars have been tested for road worthiness and safety. As you can see, we're no newcomer to the street rod market, and this is not a "carry-over" business from a speed shop or racecar manufacturer. This company has supported itself exclusively as a complete Street Rod Shop for almost three decades. We have sponsored numerous Giveaway Projects for the NSRA and Goodguy Associations, and you've no doubt seen our cars on countless magazine covers, centerfolds, posters -- even national television.
Over the years, Total Performance has gained many awards and honors for outstanding safety and workmanship. In 1990, our Pro Street T was voted "Best Street Rod Kit" by Kit Car Magazine.
